Randy Piper was not in 'The
White', but he is a good friend and we played in several different
bands together over the years which earns him mention here. Right
after I quit 'The Boyz' in 1977 we played together in 'L.A. Fox'/L.A.
Rox (sound bytes coming soon) for a few years.
He is an extraordinarily talented musician and I am proud to say that we worked together. After he joined WASP they rehearsed at my studio in Los Alamitos for quite a while...that Blackie Lawless is a great guy (he paid me in full). During that time when he wasn't touring the world with WASP, Randy played with me on lots of demo stuff recorded at 'Sunset Sound' and 'United Western Studios' circa 1983-86 in Hollywood, including some brilliant stuff with Andy Johns and David Glover producing (sound bytes coming soon).
We had lots of good times together playing music, partying and getting crazy...and Randy knows how to party believe me! He also travelled with me to Germany to record my first album for Atlantic Records. It is here that things took a turn for the worse. The producer Mack (of ELO & Queen fame) didn't care much for Randy's guitar selection (which featured his 'pipe' guitar from WASP amoung others) because the intonation was not good on them. The guitars he brought with him sounded good live, but in the studio it was a different deal. There were many arguments between them that I had to get in between. Suffice to say that Randy was sent packing by the Record company at Mack's request despite my objections. After that fiasco our relationship was strained at best and it has always bothered me that Randy might have thought I was not on his side. When I think back, I probably should have fought a little bit harder to keep him on the album, but that's under the bridge now...and rumour has it so is Randy. Just kidding...I don't know where he is or what happened to him.
If you're out there Randy I hope all is well and give me a call so I can update the fans. More information on Randy »
